Home About Why Build an REP? The Proposal Economic Benefits Views Environmental Statement

We are pleased to announce that on Nov 21, 2007, the Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) granted Prenergy Power Limited consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 for the construction of the
Port Talbot Renewable Energy Plant.

The Renewable Energy Plant will be situated within industrial land close to the deep water harbour at Port Talbot.

Construction is planned to commence in the second quarter of 2008 and last about 32 months, with full operation beginning in the first quarter of 2011.

The need for the Renewable Energy Plant (REP) is presented in the context of international, European and national obligations associated with combating climate change, promoting sustainability and renewable energy.

It also addresses issues relating to ensuring the security of our energy supply, as well as the increased long term operational sustainability of the Port Talbot Docks.
