Home About Why Build an REP? The Proposal Economic Benefits Views Environmental Statement
  • Three-dimensional modelling of the external appearance of the REP has been completed. The purpose was to illustrate the scale and massing of the proposed extension relative to the surrounding built development, and has been used to prepare photomontages.

  • The site is situated in a highly developed area of industrial and commercial development.

  • The surrounding built fabric of the Corus steelworks is a major barrier in views towards the proposed site from the south and east. Consequently, the highest sections of the Renewable Energy Plant are being the main visual components from Margam.

  • Mitigation measures are considered essential for the integration of the new development in views from the local coastal plain. The use of appropriate colour finish will effectively reduce the potential visibility of the buildings and result in a modern development. This will potentially remove views of other industrial activities in the more distant views across the steelworks.

  • The buildings have been aligned so that each shields the one behind it from the nearest residents in terms of both noise and appearance.

  • The fuel store has been positioned so as to optimise its inherent noise and visual shielding effect.

  • The bund and landscape scheme will also assist in improving the extent of local vegetation cover as well as providing a visual setting for the large building units.

  • It is considered that the range of mitigation measures proposed will result in no significant impact occurring on the visual receptors assessed nor on landscape quality.
