Home About Why Build an REP? The Proposal Economic Benefits Views Environmental Statement
  • The EIA generally followed the nationally recognised Guidelines for Baseline Ecological Assessment or the current best-practice guidelines for specific species. The scope of the ecological surveys required was determined from an understanding of the site, and from consultation with the statutory agencies.
  • The following surveys were carried out:

    Extended Phase I habitat survey;
    Great crested newt (Triturus cristatus) surveys;
    Bat foraging survey;
    Reptile survey;
    Badger survey;
    Breeding bird survey.

  • No sensitive habitats or plants were identified within the development area. The area comprises mainly operational sand and gravel quarry and re-seeded grassland where quarrying has been completed.

  • No great crested newts, badgers or reptiles were found within the study area.

  • The site was of limited use for bats, and appeared to be of low value for invertebrates.

  • The site was not found to hold any significant populations of birds of European, national or regional importance, or any breeding species of recognised international conservation importance.

  • No impacts are expected on any statutory nature conservation site within 10 km of the development site.

  • Mitigation proposed will have positive impacts on the species and habitats associated with the development area and reduce further the risks of adverse impacts.

  • Around 9.7 hectares of the most northern section of the development site will be dedicated to biodiversity management and improvement. This area will include the construction of a 3 m high landscaped area.

  • With the implementation of the mitigation proposals, no residual impacts are expected on key species and habitats.
