  • A Flood Consequence Assessment (FCA) has been undertaken in order to establish the risk of flooding to the Renewable Energy Plant.

  • Development Advice Maps indicate that part of the development site is within Flood Risk Zone C2, which is defined to be at risk during an extreme (1 in 1,000 year) flood event. Following a site inspection by a hydrologist and a detailed topographical survey, it was discovered that the site levels have significantly altered since the maps were originally generated.

  • On current site topography indicates that the site is generally not at risk from flooding. However, there are two areas of the site at risk from an extreme flood. It is therefore considered necessary to ensure levels on the developed site are above the extreme flood level to negate any flooding risks. The creation of a development platform set at 7 metres Above Ordnance Datum will ensure that there is no increased risk of flooding.

  • The recommended controls identified within the ES will prevent surface water runoff entering the Port Talbot Docks, River Afan and the coastline. Furthermore, any impact or effect on the water features will be avoided. Also measures will be taken to ensure that any concrete spills during foundation formation are prevented from polluting surface and ground water.

  • The predicted residual effects on surface water and groundwater are therefore classified as being not significant.
