  • A large portion of the £400 million capital investment will go to local suppliers.

  • During the operation of the REP, the equipment maintenance costs are predicted to be £8 - £10 million per annum. It is likely that a large fraction of this will go to the local suppliers.

  • Direct and indirect salary expenditure is predicted to be greater than £7.5 million annually.

  • During the construction and decommissioning phases, the socio-economic effects related to traffic increases, disturbance from construction noise and pollution are predicted to be of minor or no significance. Positive effects include employment generation and the associated economic activity.

  • The effects during operation include those related to traffic, and increased direct and indirect job opportunities. The most significant effect is thought to be related to the influx of economic activity such as the added confidence factor of a significant investment and expenditure in the local economy.
